Baby sign language reduces frustration, accelerates verbal development and strengthens cognitive skills. Baby sign language provides the skills to communicate with your           pre-verbal baby while enhancing child-parent bonding through time spent teaching signs to your baby.

Look through our website for information related to baby & toddler sign language and child development. Please like us on Facebook.

Our goal is to provide parents with a wonderful tool to bridge meaningful communication with their children!

Elijah signing animal signs at 16 months of age: Signs include: penguin, turtle, horse, bird, fish, octopus, giraffe and a verbal “whats tat”. Finding motivational signs are very important when signing/speaking to your child!

Today’s parents are using sign language to communicate with their pre-verbal infant and hearing toddlers! Signing with children is a parenting tool that research shows increases a child’s vocabulary, reduces frustrations, crying and tantrums, while children are more interested in books as well as strengths cognitive skills. Parents and caregivers are able to have a two way conversation with their child, understand and meet their children’s needs quicker, engage in child directed play and have fun exploring the world through their children’s view!

At My Smart Hands Saskatoon, we will give you the skills and knowledge to communicate with your pre-verbal baby and engage in meaningful conversation and play with your hearing toddler and child! We learn these skills by signing to music, books, songs and games! Our classes and workshops are fun, educational in a playful environment.

My Smart Hands (MSH) Flash Cards are a great learning tool to use with your child. There are two different flash cards: Everyday signs and the Alphabet signs. MSH flash cards are fully laminated, come with a detachable ring, have upper and lowercase letters and each have different colours on the cards making them multi-educational! They can be ordered through me!

In terms of resources I would recommend following Laura Berg , President and founder of MSH, on YouTube. She has over 400 videos! Also, my Facebook group, , is a great place to find videos, tips, articles regarding baby sign! We also just started a twitter account @mysmarthandssaskatoon. I would love to see you engaging on our sites!

      Happy Signing,
      My Smart Hands Saskatoon

        Hello,
I forgot to mention that “The Baby Signing Bible” is a wonderful book to help promote learning of baby sign language. This book has over 400 signs to help you get started!

I would also recommend attending a workshop or class to gain confidence in signing as well as gain ideas of how to use signing in a fun and educational way in your home!

        Happy Signing,
        My Smart Hands Saskatoon

    Hi there,

I have 9wk old twins girl and boy…at what age does one trying to sign with their children and if we were to come to an 8 wk course… would we have to pay $200 one for each child? just to be sure… i have a couple friends who use signing with their children and seems to work well for them so am interested in learning more about this process of learning. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide…

Thank you for connecting with My Smart Hands Saskatoon! Congratulations on your twin children.
There is no magical time to start signing with your child. You can start to teach your baby any time you would like and feel motivated to do so.
Some experts suggest waiting until six months of age. This is more for the parents’ sake than the child’s. Generally, babies do not start signing back until 8-12 months of age.
We started to sign with our son, Elijah, a 4.5 months of age. I found this to be a great way to explore his world, show toys and bring about a fun way to learn!

The cost of our Level I classes are $100+30 for the curriculum. My goal is to have an interactive and supportive child signing community in Saskatoon. Because of this, at this point, we are not charging extra per child! Our level I classes provide parents will learn in an educational and language-rich environment! You will build your ASL signing vocabulary through instruction, interactive games and songs and books!
I host a monthly workshop on the first Wednesday of each month at Birth Rhythms at 10AM. This class is 30 minutes of signing and singing to children’s songs! Afterwards, parents have ample time for chatting and coffee by donation. This workshop maybe a way to come and learn a few signs and song before starting a level class! The cost of this workshop is $10.
Please let me know if you have any other question!

      Hi Lavi!
We are great, enjoying our summer.
Thank you so much for the update on Sahana. I cannot believe she is already 10 months old. It sounds as though she has a great understanding and ability to communicate with you and her dad. I love the story about shopping and showing it is time for bed. Way to go momma! You have given Sahana a very special and unique skill.
I cannot wait to see a video of her signing.

      Happy Signing,
      Tanya
