Our son, Elijah, is almost 14 months old. He has vocabulary of 20 words, 6 sentences and has been parroting the following words/letters: 1 to 7, a to f, round and and! This is a combination of ASL and English words.
Today, we came home and he found a string that was connected to a balloon. Elijah asked me “wats tis?”. I answered, That is a string. Elijah then repeated “sting” and repeated this word for the next 5 minutes!
Days like this, I know that signing has impacted not only Elijah’s language development, it has also impacted how he views the word, connects items and words and is not afraid to sign or say words!
Happy Signing!
