New Level I Baby Sign Language Class Now Open in Saskatoon

Due to popular demand, we have added a NEW Level I “My Smart Hands” Baby Sign Language class. This class starts Tuesday May 3rd at 2:15pm.

Together, parents and babies, learn baby sign language (American Sign Language Signs) through fun and unique child development activities that include: sensory bins, sensory bottles, scarves, movement and bounce activities, music and movement, bubbles, drop bins and much more. Moms and babies can enjoy these classes right from birth as there is elements to promote parent-child interactions and bonding. We use the “My Smart Hands” program which is Canadian Parent Tested Parent Approved Award winning!

Wednesday’s Word (ASL Signs)

It’s Wednesday which means we get to play “What is Mr. E Signing?”

Baby sign ASL for Stop Saskatoon

That’s correct! Mr E is signing “STOP”. This is such a great sign to use with your children as they grow and explore. We will ask Miss K to “STOP” when she starts touching plants, or wanting to put something in her mouth that doesn’t belong there. This  sign can also replace where one may use the word/sign “NO”.

Keep ASL Baby Sign Language fun through play and exploration!

scarf play

One sensory based learning activity we use in our classes is scarf play!

This type of sensory play helps to develop multiple areas of whole child development including: brain development (how things move in space, and object permanence), language development (when paired with an activity/song- read below for one we use in our classes), and fine motor skills (letting your little one touch the scarf and try to grasp it in the space).

where is baby

Song we used in class (Yes, we have two dads in our classes the Winter class term!):

Where Is Baby?
Where is “baby”? Where is “baby”?

Here s/he is, here s/he is!

I’m so glad to “see you”, I’m so glad to “see you”!

Peek a boo, Peek a boo! (Here is where you can play with the scarf- hide from you little, move the scarf over their head, have them touch the scarf).

We are excited to announce that due to popular demand a NEW Level I Baby Sign Language (My Smart Hands) has been just been added! This class starts May 3 at 2:15pm; register today to avoid disappointment.

Tuesday’s Signing Tip!

Here is another great tip for a successful beginning using ASL baby sign language!

Ask your child what they want using baby sign! Then meet their needs. This helps to develop a two way conversation and allows the parent to meet their little one’s needs quicker in the future!

For example: you may know your little wants milk! Try asking, “Are you wanting some milk?” while empathizing the word milk verbally and through signing! Then give your little what they want after you ask for the sign!

Tuesday’s Signing Tip – Week 2 out of 5

This is the second out of five weeks of signing tips!

2. Take your child’s hand and show how it feels to make the sign!

This is a great tip to use to help encourage your child to continue signing. One sign that parents find to use hand over hand signing or manipulation of signs is the sign “more”. When your signing “more”, you can take your little’s hand and show them how it feels to make the sign. Then respond by giving your little what they are wanting. This sign is great for food related aspects!
